High Tea for the Prince?
I got in to work yesterday and on my desk was an invitation. It was made in the style of a wedding invitation on pink paper with scrolly lettering. I sat down, intrigued and began to read…
It was an invitation to ‘high tea’ to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of that prince in England that’s getting married (I don’t remember his name). We were asked to bring finger food and to dress up and wear a head covering. It was organized by someone at work.
My first response was laugher. I mean really?? Was I being punked? Who does this? But the more I thought about it, the more crazy it became. Someone clearly put a lot of thought and effort into this, which absolutely flabbergasts me! Here are my thoughts:
- Who cares? I mean - the English royalty are figure heads, not political power at all. Why does anyone care who they marry? I mean I remember when Charles and Diana got married - I got up at like 4am to watch it on tv, I was fascinated. BUT I WAS TWELVE. How do rational adults get all worked up over something like this?
- Who has time to organize and elaborate party like this for something that doesn’t matter? Graduation parties and wedding receptions are bad enough - but at least they are celebrating something of importance!
- Didn’t we just have layoffs and a re-org because of the budget at KCC? I work hard every single moment I’m at KCC, and many that I’m not, just to get the things done that are on my plate. If there are people who have time to sit around and plan this sort of thing then clearly there was a problem with the re-org.
Oh how I wish I had scanned it in so I could share it with you! Perhaps it’s the “J” in me, but not only do I see no value in such a thing, I’m highly suspicious about the character of anyone who does participate. I’m tempted to put it on my calendar, just so I can sneak down and see who’s there. Only I won’t because I don’t want to know that. It’s just like the square dancing - my opinion of some people is now forever changed after seeing that.
