It’s been quite rewarding to check Twitter this morning. This shot was posted by @greghodorek - who took it while running lights from his iPad during rehearsal!
There were a couple tweets by @sandilking (our stage manager for this event) that particularly warmed my heart. As production folk, we like being behind the scenes and supporting the performers and communication. But when we do go above and beyond, it’s a pretty great thing to get a shout out from stage. Thanks @stevejnorman!
I definitely want to say thanks to Renee Mulliniks (K-Rock Director) who produced the event and created a great show with the cast of kids. They’re not just cute children, they’re high level performers.
It was a lot of work starting with the initial dreaming stage…planning for what the blocking would likely be so that we could understand where there had to be water; and where that water would likely splash…putting together the budget…figuring microphones, tracks, live band placement, potential rental… And that was only the beginning
Sandi deserves enormous credit for managing the project. We used a shared Google Document for the idea phase. We managed the project from Basecamp to delegate tasks, meet deadlines, and track progress. The cue sheet and cast/crew scheduling was executed using Planning Center Online.
Our whole team really did a great job. I want to specifically thank my friend Ron Goss. From the simple encouragement that my ideas would actually work, to the offer to loan his mylar dance floor to protect our apron, to the time onsite setting it up, he was a gift! I also want to thank my dear friend Chadd Horanburg who was a right hand to me this whole week through the set-up and rehearsal process. Everyone on the team really was amazing. Nobody doubted in the process; and each person brought their A-game. I’m so blessed to serve with such great people.
Success of an event like this is really satisfying!
It’s nice to be home with my family after the past week of chaos. I’ve been really busy some projects. This was one of them. I just finished a big freelance design. And even though the set construction is finished, I still have to solve problems of how it all actually fits on stage… For today, however, I’m going to enjoy time with my boys and their mother.
